Like at Le Mans, drivers at Nice must first dash across the track to their cars, then jump in to start the engines and race off down the first straight. The first cars onto the circuit have an advantage as they shift into higher gears, but it will be crowded as they jockey against each other to try for a clean breakaway. Now it begins.... There it is, the circuit official is raising the green flag.... And the green flag drops to start this year’s Grand Prix de Nice!! Fastest off are both Norway at the pole position and in last position the Finnish driver. Sweden, Czechoslovakia, France and Spain lag behind as the rest dash toward their cars! While Norway has a clean track ahead, Finland's Tavho Myrsky now must fight his way through the traffic ahead! Many drivers will opt to cross into the pit lane during this type of start to avoid collisions -- which is approved under the official rules for the start only.
