Race :: Round 26 - Victory at Staouéli!

Click Here for Car Stats & Leader Board

A desperate dash is on now for the finish, with Sweden leading -- yet the famed Shark, Rutger Hägglund, struggles to shift into 5th Gear. Taking advantage of the momentary disorder, Finland's driver, the ice racer Tavho Myrsky, dashes past, with Megane Omalie of Norway in close pursuit. The now dazed Hägglund, cursing his luck, can do little to catch them now as the two race across the finish line just ahead!

In a last bid to catch Norway, Omalie presses her engine so hard that it nearly blows out. The two cars blaze past, taking the checkered flag and fly toward the press box, both cutting to the right to avoid hitting VV and Orsi. The Italian, still unconscious, is nearly clear of the track, being dragged to safety by the Czech driver’s fiancée, VV. From the pit lane, suddenly mechanics of every nation run to assist her as the crowd also suddenly surges over the hay bales, though some seem more interested in helping VV than Orsi, it would seem.

Farther back, the last car of race, driven by Switzerland's Petrus de Salvion Bernardus fights to accelerate from lower gears. He crosses the line into 8th Place. The little red and white Bugatti is the last car in the points -- and coincidentally, the last car in the race to cross the finish line.

And with that, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Grand Prix d'Algiers ends -- a difficult, long race with a great many challenges. The wrecks of four cars litter the track. Coming up next, a post-race review and, once the victory laps are complete. We look forward to interviews with the top three drivers.

Race :: Round 25 - More Disaster at La Bridja!

Click Here for Car Stats & Leader Board

Spain and Italy now make a desperate run for the finish line, both drivers accelerating in near perfect harmony -- and so the Spaniard, Estebàn Blanco, takes 3rd Place! Sebi Orsi blazes across the finish line even as his tire explodes. Sparks from the wheel rim are flying everywhere as the Maserati skids sideways, then spins around as the last of front tire rubber flies off onto the track! Orsi fights to control his car, spinning backward, then left and now, the car grinds to a stop in front of the press box!!

Everyone jumps up to the edge of the barriers to watch Orsi's car, now oblivious to the approaching racers rushing for the finish line, with Sweden in the lead and tight race for 6th Place now going on. For a moment, it appears everything is okay but then the smoking Maserati catches on fire.

What's that there? My God, it is Rychly's girl, VV. She presses through the throng, leaps the barrier and throws herself onto the cockpit of the Maserati in a desperate bid to save Orsi from the fire. Smoke is rising from his all-but-ruined Maserati, yet a clearly dazed Orsi somehow pulls himself out of the wreckage and staggers onto the track! He appears disoriented as he takes his first step -- he has paused...... He grabs hold of the smoldering wreck and then collapses, but VV -- what is she doing down there!?

Radio listeners -- this is a very dangerous scene, I cannot express this enough. VV has run onto the track and OH MY LORD -- she catches Orsi as he falls unconscious and drags him away from the car! Are those flames? This is VERY dangerous -- the other cars are coming and Orsi's car appears to be on fire while VV pulls him across the track toward the pit lane!

Yet suddenly, the sound of yet one more crash is heard back at La Bridja! The brakes of his white Bugatti T51A gone, Germany has lost control and has hit the hay bales. His car is a total wreck, but somehow Hegkman pulls himself free of the wreckage. He staggers to the side of the track, then rises to his full height and waves to the crowd -- he is alright! Yet what a disaster, three cars have crashed at La Bridja and a fourth at the finish line!

Race :: Round 24 - Spectacular Crash for Belgium!

VV!! Give me back the microphone...

(Scuffle, scuffle.)

My darling, Vitez! Surely, to win ahead, the little red and white car is cheat, no?

(Scuffle, scuffle.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, our apologies for that but we…

(Scuffle, scuffle.)

Look, my beautiful dress everyone, it is I buy for winner’s circle, not the second place!

(Scuffle, scuffle.)

Get her out of here!! Security! SECURITY!! Returning to the race, Ladies and Gentlemen, Spain is now roaring to the finish, putting a gap on Italy that looks impossible to overcome. Suddenly, to everyone's shock, the tread on Orsi's Maserati separates and flies completely off of Italy’s front left tire! How Orsi stays on the track is a miracle! Surely, he must shift down, and ease off to let Spain win... or will he risk disaster and press on? Belgium flies out of the curve, clearly out of control and skids into the left lane, slamming into the wreck of John Milk's Amilcar -- another crash!! Belgium is out of the race!! The rest of the pack is fighting through La Bridja without incident, but farther back, it looks like Germany may be carrying too much speed -- can he make it through La Bridja curve?

(In background: Lay off the hands of beautiful dress, no mess for photographs, no mess for my Vitez -- no push -- I go, okay? Is okay, please....)

Race :: Round 23 - Monaco Takes the Flag!

Click Here for Car Stats & Leader Board

Louis de Montignac of Monaco sprints ahead to the take the checkered flag and victory in the Grand Prix d'Algiers!! Close behind, closing the gap but not quite making it for a final pass, comes Czechoslovakia's ace driver, Vitez Rychly to take 2nd Place. Less than a second behind, the roar of his little orange Bugatti nearly drowns out the screams of his girl, VV, who has just burst into the Press Box behind me!! Coming out of La Bridja, Italy’s Sebi Orsi cuts to the center, a piece of his front left tire flying off, but somehow he holds it on the road yet sees Spain cut to his outside and pass. Both cars are skidding, as Estebàn Blanco inches past the famed Italian, but just ahead looms the wreck of Britain’s Amilcar, blocking the black Bugatti's path. Both cars are now in a race for the finish. Behind, the cars jam together into La Bridja curve, nearly touching as everyone downshifts to take the hairpin. Sweden moves into the lead temporarily but then the daring Belgian flies into the turn in high gear, barely holding on. He passes the pack carrying so much speed it looks impossible for him to now make it out of the curve!! Far behind, Germany presses on in the straight, no doubt hoping that two of the front runners collide or crash, which would put him into the points with an 8th Place finish to.... Hey, that’s my microphone... VV, no! You can't…. I won't let…. (The sounds of a struggle follow.)

Race :: Round 22 - Racing to the Finish!

Click Here for Car Stats & Leader Board

Coming out of the curve at La Bridja, Monaco gears up and makes a break for the finish line, with the Czech driver, Rychly smoking his tires as he skids out of the curves not far behind. It looks like a neck-and-neck race to the checkered flag now! Italy's Sebi Orsi enters the La Bridja curve perfectly and, glancing back is amazed to see the Spanish driver weave through traffic to come up alongside. But Orsi's attention is suddenly taken by a further problem with both his front tires, which are now losing pieces fast as bits of black rubber start to spew off vertically. Can he even finish? Behind, the pack follows closely into the approaches to the curve, with Switzerland darting forward to take several positions as Sweden throttles back to ensure good positioning going into the curve. Finland, Switzerland, Sweden and Norway are now set up to take on La Bridja and it is a toss-up to think who might win.

Race :: Round 21 - Crash at La Bridja!

Click Here for Car Stats & Leader Board

At La Bridja, Britain's John Milk downshifts and makes a daring attempt to retain the lead, but cannot hold on as the car spins and then flips onto its side, sliding down the outside lane! Monaco more conservatively shifts down to 2nd Gear and, his brakes smoking, takes the curve perfectly, only to see the green Amilcar careening ahead, blocking the lane. Louis de Montignac will need to shift into the center lane to avoid a collision, but it looks like nothing can stop him from taking the checkered flag! Rychly is hot on his heels, set up for a likely 2nd place finish, as he too enters La Bridja, and Sebi Orsi, now incredibly in 3rd place, comes up to the curve. Farther back, in the second group, the Swedish shark cuts daringly through the pack from 7th place into what will now be 4th, his engine strained from over revving and smoking a cloud of white as he passes Finland with a wave. The rest of the field continues to press down the straight with Germany at the far back. Sebi Orsi of Italy is suddenly faced with an extraordinary challenge, with Sweden, Finland and Spain racing up into what may become a traffic jam in the La Bridja curve. Can Orsi retain his 3rd place position and take the podium or will the honor go to the suddenly resurgent Swede, Rutger Hägglund or even to the Finnish ice champion, Tavho Myrsky?

Race :: Round 20 - Into La Bridja

Click Here to View Car Stats & Leader Board

As Monaco enters La Bridja curve, suddenly Britain's extraordinary driving prowess comes to the fore. With perfect timing, John Milk cuts to the inside and retakes the lead as Louis de Montignac roars straight into the curve. Milk shifts down abruptly to best manage the tight right hairpin, that is the last challenge of the circuit before the checkered flag. Behind, Rychly of Czechoslovakia fumbles his gears and suddenly finds himself badly positioned to take the curve. Seeing little choice, Rychly zigs to the inside lane in the approaches to La Bridja. Behind, Sebi Orsi of Italy slows for the upcoming curve, but leaves the car in high gear. The rest of the pack follows, closing in and cutting down the lead of the lead group. Finland presses on and extends his lead, now dominating at the head of the second group. Sweden fights forward for a position, passing Switzerland as all of the drivers now seem to be making their final break for position. Behind, Germany takes last place, but accelerates smoothly into a recovery that puts him into a position from which, if his luck returns, he could challenge Belgium for last position of those remaining on the track. Incredibly, so far in Algiers, only one car has been knocked out of the race -- and that was France after a truly brilliant showing -- but perhaps La Bridja will hold a final surprise!

Race :: Round 19 - Roaring Down the Straight

Click Here to View Car Stats & Leader Board

Monaco holds onto the lead as the pack follows, accelerating down the straight toward the La Bridja curve. In the middle, Spain fights for position and over revs his engine, leaving a cloud of white smoke as he darts ahead. At the back, Godeschalk Hegkman of Germany is struggling to accelerate as Norway passes and Belgium closes in from behind at a much higher speed, in higher gear and changing lanes in preparation to pass. Unless someone makes a mistake, it looks very likely now that Germany will be in last place.
