Behind Milk's Amilcar C6, the field suddenly spreads out as Germany slows to negotiate the curve at Sinistere. Monaco and Czechoslovakia race past the beached French car which skidded to a stop at the entrance to the chicane. As he sails past, Czechoslovakia's Rychly briefly turns to wave at Aristide La Fontaine even as the Frenchman scrambles for the safety of the hay bales. Then, the Czech, perhaps still distracted, clips the Godeschalk's left rear tire as he jockeys past -- or was it on purpose, a replay of the František Borovsky's mountain crash from several years back? Despite the minor collision, the three cars are now perfectly positioned in a group to chase Britain.
Farther back, Belgium leads a second group of cars as they fight their way out of El Wahid. Finally, Norway's Megane Omalie is at the rear, now in danger of falling dreadfully behind as she struggles take the curves, using every bit of her strength against the steering wheel to stay in the running -- racing is not a gentle sport.
